Hyperpigmentation of the face

The "hyperpigmentation" consultation offered by Dr. Aurore Lé will help you identify the skin care and treatments best suited to the origin of these spots.

What are the different types of facial pigmentation?

Melanin is the natural pigment responsible for skin, hair and eye color.

Hyperpigmentation is characterized by areas of skin that are darker than the surrounding complexion, due to an excessive presence of melanin.

It can take different forms:

  • Sun spots (solar lentigos): caused by prolonged exposure to the sun, they appear as small brown spots, often on the face, hands and arms.
  • Melasma: brownish patches, often symmetrical, appearing on the forehead, cheeks, upper lip and chin. Melasma is often triggered by hormonal changes (pregnancy, contraceptives) and/or sun exposure.
  • Post-inflammatory scars: dark spots can appear after inflammatory skin lesions, such as acne, eczema or wounds. They are more common in people with darker skin and hair.

What treatments are available?

Following this consultation, a care program is proposed, including products and treatments adapted to your needs. The daily application of sunscreen remains essential for the management of hyperpigmentation.
